Summer League Helps Polish Skills
Kettering, OH (July 19, 2004) Valley View volleyball players are beginning to get some practice during their summer league at Kettering Recreational Center.
Stephanie Risner has taken charge of the team will be coaching them on Monday and Wednesday until the end of the month. Centerville, Kettering, Fenwick, West Carrollton, Fairmont, and Northmont all participate in the league with Valley View.
"There are no practices for summer leagues, that begins in the season. It's all just for fun. The games are basically scrimmages in preparation for the 2004-05 Spartan season," Risner mentioned.
Last week the girls went up against Fairmont on Monday and won the best out of three games.
"We didn't keep score. We won though. Our strength is our defense. We still need some work on offense," Risner stated.
Last Wednesday, the girls had two games against Fenwick and Fairmont. Fenwick had a strong team and Valley View fell, but then they came back to beat Fairmont.
"Fenwick was a stronger team and we weren't making good passes or getting good hits. Serving was fine, but defensively we just weren't making good passes," Risner commented.
"In the Fairmont game, our defense and offense just came together. We were serving really good," Risner noted.
This is the girls third week into the program and Risner is pleased with what she sees, "I think we are going to have a really good team at Valley View this year, but there still are some things the girls need to work on. They need to talk more and stay low."
