Spartan Second Half Effort Ties Milton Union

Germantown, OH (September 17, 2004)— So far this season the Spartan boys' soccer team has dominated the field, no matter who they have played. But dictating the control of the ball is only one part of winning.

"We dominated the game tonight (Thursday). We out shot them, but just couldn't get it completely done," Coach Devin Stoutenborough said.

Last night the Spartans 2-2 tie with the Bulldogs moved their record to 1-1-2 in the SWBL and 3-3-2 overall. Milton-Union's Jordan Rhoads scored both goals for the Bulldogs.

"They (Milton-Union) haven't scored a lot of goals this year and we allowed both of them off of defensive errors," noted Stoutenborough.

On the other side of the ledger, it was exchange student Mathias Bach who scored both of Valley View's goals.

"We were trying to take some pressure off of Ryan Peck, so we put the ball in Mathias' hands. He hasn't scored a goal since the Carlisle game, so it was good to get him in the game," Stoutenborough stated.

Defensively the Spartans made some changes in the second half that helped them back from a 2-1 deficit, like the addition of sophomore Tyler O'Diam. The changes seemed to work as the Bulldogs failed to find the back of the net the remainder of the game.

Valley View is doing a lot of the right things but Stoutenborough is still looking for more offensive output from his team.

"We've had some good shots on goal, we're just not getting very lucky," noted the coach.

The Spartans return to action Saturday when they travel to Dayton Christian. JV starts at 5:00 p.m. followed by varsity.
