Fumbles, Intereceptions, Officials Keep Spartan Offense at Bay

Middletown, OH (September 16, 2005) In a sudden gust of gravity, the high-powered offense of the Valley View Spartans seems to have fallen back down to earth after flying sky high for the last three weeks, downing the Madison Mohawks, 26-13.

The usually explosive Spartan offense sputtered a little this week under the weight of 140 yards in penalties and two interceptions that stopped several potential scoring opportunities. Curtis Moore, who last week racked up a personal best 253 yards on the ground, could only muster 35 against an improved Mohawk defense. QB Chris Cason ran for 37 yards.

Both of Madisons two touchdowns occured after Spartan penalties provided excellent field position. The last TD coming on a series of bizarre penalties, with three seconds remaining in the game, in which defensive coordinator, Rick Newsock, inadvertanly stepped out of the box (flag number 1), and defensive assistant, Mark Jenkins, questioned the number of men on the field ("So what you're saying is you can't count to twelve?" – flag number 2).
