Spartans Overwhelm Eagles; Win Secures League Title
Bellbrook, OH (October 29, 2005) Curtis Moore rumbled for 230 yard and five touchdowns, while sophomore QB Chris Cason racked up another 97 on the ground, enroute to a 13th SWBL title and a certain home game in the playoffs, by defeating Bellbrook, 45-13 on the Golden Eagles home turf.
The Spartans started out slow however, allowing the Eagles 7 points on their opening drive and then fumbling the ball away twice during a quarter and a half of play.
But the momentum shifted abruptly, when the Spartan defense held the Eagles on a 4th-and-1 play at the Spartan 18 yard line, and the Spartan offense capitalized on the beginning of multiple Bellbrook miscues, to jump to a 17-7 halftime lead.
And the momentum carried over into the second half, the Spartans stopping the Eagles on the opening drive, before launching into offensive overdrive for 28 points and 403 total yards.
The win clinched a first-place spot in the Region 16 playoffs where they will host an opening round game against likely candidate Cincinnati Mariemont (6-4). The Warriors were nearly eliminated in Week Ten by a 35-9 trouncing at the hands of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (10-0). The Spartans return to the playoffs for the 13th time in the last 14 years.
Valley View Online will have complete preview of the Spartans opponent later in the week.
