Faith Fuels College-Bound Spartan
Germantown, OH (June 18, 2004) Faith, family, academics, and then football.
That's the priorities that Valley View graduate Josh Deeter wants from a college. And that's exactly what Anderson is all about.
"I am going into Christian ministry and Anderson has a great program," Deeter said.
Deeter wasn't sure if he would continue his football career in college, but after realizing that Anderson offered all of the above, which is everything he wanted, including football he knew it was the right place for him.
"I wasn't really sure if I wanted to play football in college, but coach pushed me towards the idea," Deeter commented.
Deeter looked into other colleges, but they just didn't offer what Anderson could.
"I looked into Otterbein and Hanover, but Anderson offered exactly what I wanted," added Deeter.
On the football side, Deeter knows that coach Jeff Judge will help him grow both on and off the field.
"He seems to be a good coach and they've had a winning record the last couple of years. The coach will help me with football and help me grow spiritually," Deeter said.
Judge is in his first season as the head coach for Anderson and is beginning his career with a strong team.
The Raven football team has built a solid team with a solid history. Over the last 56 season the Ravens have had 209 All-Conference players, 33 All-Americans, 13 conference titles, three national playoff appearances, one nation runner-up and one player drafted into the NFL.
Deeter may see time as a linebacker, or at strong safety. He'll most likely be working with Coach Marc Etchison who specializes in that area. Etchison is in his fourth year with the Anderson coaching staff.
Overall Deeter likes the style of ball the coaching staff emphasizes. On the defensive side they focus on man-to-man coverage and attack with a variety of blitzes. The offensive side sticks to a no-huddle offense.
"I'll probably see time at linebacker and maybe some time at strong safety. They are a passing team," Deeter commented.
For now Deeter is following his workout and preparing to take off for his freshman year. He's leaving in August.
"The workout is tough, but I'm looking forward to playing. Hanover is on our schedule, so I'll be playing against some of the guys from Valley View," Deeter mentioned.
The junior varsity team will battle with Hanover on September 6 and the varsity squad will play them on October 30.
Deeter feels that Anderson can give him everything he wants. And it does.
The Ravens pride themselves on their commitment to excellence on and off the field and believe that football, academics and family will be lived in a faithful manner. Everything will.
"It's exactly what I wanted," Deeter said.
