Men's Varsity Struggles in Second Season Win
Germantown, OH (January 14, 2006)— On the strength of Mitch Howard's three, three-pointers, and superior inside shooting by Mitchell Kemper and Elliot Boyd, the Spartan's jumped out to a 23-11 first period score to outpace the Madison Mohawks and capture their second victory of the season.
Valley View improves to 2-8 while the Mohawks fall to 3-7 overall.
Smart shooting on the inside and consistent defensive rebounding helped propel the Spartans to a 19 point halftime lead, their largest lead of the entire season.
The Mohawks would not surrender, outscoring the home team 9-16 and 14-18 in the third and fourth periods to cut the final margin to 8 points, mostly fueled by errant Spartan passes and an effective Madison zone that forced the Spartans to the outside.
It was Madison's sophomore scoring ace, Nathanael Harney, who made the greatest impact in the second half. Harney led all scorers with 28 points, where he shoot 10-10 from the floor and went 8-11 at the line and leads the SWBL scoring chart.
The Spartans take on Preble Shawnee at home next Friday, January 20. The Arrows, at 1-11 are looking for there second win of the season in a matchup of the Southwestern division foes.
