Lady Spartans Fall Short in Bid for MUM Championship
Middletown, OH (December 30, 2005)— Valley View rallied from a 6-0 deficit to take the lead at the end of the first period, 11-10, but couldn't stay on top as they fell to the Madison Mohawks, 37-41.
Carly Nance scored a tournament high 24 points for the Mohawks, including a pair of three-pointers in the second period, that put the Spartans down by six points at the half.
"Carly really hurt us tonight," commented Spartan coach Steve Dickson on Nance's performance. "But then defensively, we didn't do anything to step up and challenge her."
"We've got to come to play every game. As a team we understand that. We have to make the shots. Tonight we didn't do that."
Offensively, Valley View found it difficult to put the ball in the basket, especially when it counted, shooting a mere 17 of 45 from the field.
"Madison's a good team, but they just shot better than we did tonight. That's the answer," said Dickson about his teams performance. "We had plenty of opportunities, we just missed some good shots."
The Spartans fall to 6-2 while Madison remains unbeaten at 8-0. The two teams meet again next Saturday, Jan. 14 at Valley View.
