Panthers Down Spartans in Season Opener

Germantown, OH (November 27, 2004)— For three quarters the Valley View Spartans controlled the game and the scoreboard. But a 21-7 rally by the Twin Valley South Panthers saw the Spartans disintegrate in the final 8 minutes and proved to be too much for them to overcome.

The Spartans started the game on a sluggish note, taking a full 1:36 to find the backboard, but helpe by a six-point run in the second period they boosted their lead, 27-21, with 3:36 to play in the half. Turnovers, the rest of the way, left them with only a 3-point hafltime advantage, 27-24.

Trailing 41-38 in the fourth quarter, the Panthers went on a 10 point spree, giving them the lead at 48-41, and the Spartans, who only managed seven points in the period, trailed the remainder of the game.

  

Despite a six-point lead to start the period, turnovers, fouls, and steals were the Spartans undoing. With 1:01 to play and trailing by five, 49-54, Valley View failed to score a single point, as the Panthers played keep-away to protect their lead.

Dustin Bassler (TVS) led all scorers with 22 points points from the floor, followed by teammate, Derek Smith, with 19. Tyler lddings led the Spartans in scoring with 14 points.
