Oakwood Overcomes Strong Spartan First Half

Germantown, OH (January 14, 2005)— Brandon Deaton scored a season-high 15 points and Blake Newsock punch in a couple of treys, but it in the end it wasn't enough as the Spartans dropped a heartbreaker to Oakwood 50-67.

Valley View started out strong in the first half with good pressure at both ends of the court. They took a 4 point lead into the half on the strength of a Stephen Henry basket with 2.1 seconds remaining. Henry scored when Michael Clark grabbed the rebound at the other end of the floor, and dished off to Henry under the basket.

The Spartans had trouble holding the lead however. Oakwood returned in the second half, to almost outscore the Spartans 2-1, dropping 47 points into the bucket.

Valley View drops to 2-4 in the SWBL Southwestern Division, 4-8 overall. The take on Stivers (10-4) next Tuesday, Jan. 18 at home.
