Week Off Doesn't Affect Eventual Outcome
Germantown, OH (January 21, 2005)— Between the weather and competition for gym time, the Lady Spartans could only manage 1½ hours of practice this past week. It just didn't seem to matter as Valley View outpaced Eaton, 64-47, in SWBL action Friday night.
"It was nice to get the dust off before Monroe and Bellbrook. They're two pretty tough teams, so this win really helps," commented coach Steve Dickson, immediately following the win.
It was a total team effort, with all ten players scoring for the Spartans, led by Brittney Hasty's season high 13 points. Freshman Jessy Rowland has finally settled into her role, coming off the bench to nail down 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
"Hastly just continues to play well and you can tell Jessy is not nervous anymore about playing at the varsity level," Dickson noted.
Despite the win, Dickson was still concerned about the overall play of his team.
"We played pretty sloppy and it probably had a lot to do with the amount of practice that we were able to have this week. Still, we didn't get into position on defense quick enough and it that just cause us to generate a lot of fouls."
Eaton took advantage of the Spartan miscues, hitting 21 of 30 from the free-throw line, accounting for almost half of the Eagle scoring.
