Varsity Boys Down Eaton To Even League Record
Germantown, OH (December 10, 2004)— A strong finish by the Valley View Spartans helped them down Eaton, 52-41, in SWBL league play Friday night. The win evens the Spartans record at 1-1 in the league and 2-3 overall.
Valley View had to overcome a weak third period, that produced two points of offense, and then rally in the fourth, to get their second win of the season.
"We just struggled getting to the middle and attacking the floor," commented head coach Brian Gunter.
But with the scored tied at 37 early in the fourth, Gunter told his team during the timeout, "We have to get after them."
And they did just that. Mark Ratliff took command of the boards on both ends, leading the team in scoring with 16 points, and shutting down the Eagle's ability to get quality second and third shots.
"We mixed it up man-to-man, showed a little zone, and it was effective," explained Gunter.
"Overall though, it was a good win to get even in the league and prepare us for Carlisle. These guys are just fun to coach. They are the hard working and just a pleasure in every way," beamed the grinning Gunter.
"We're going to have to continue to work hard. Carlisle will come with energy. They will be ready to compete."
