Spartans Rebound; Improve Record to 10-4

Germantown, OH (January 13, 2005)— The Lady Spartans rebounded from their loss to Oakwood earlier in the week, downing the Dayton Christian Warriors 56-34.

Tied 2-2 in the first period, the Spartans went on a 17-2 rampage that put the Warriors in a hole they could never climb out. Coupled with 82.2% free throws (14/7) shooting in the first half, the Warriors played catch up the entire evening.

"We started out fast just kept it going. Even when the bench came in, there wasn't any let down," coach Steve Dickson explained.

"After the Oakwood loss, we were just ready to play. All ten girls played well."

The game was a marked contrast from the first meeting between the two teams, when they met in the consolation round of the Holiday Tournament at Miami University Middletown. The Spartans could only muster 3 points of offense in the fourth period of that game to hold on to a slim 5-point margin of victory.

"Historically, we haven't really played well in that tournament, even though we won it a few years back. This game really showed how we should have played. We rebounded well and passed the ball against their zone effectively."

Most of those passes were inside to 5'10" center, Brittney Hasty, who scored a season-high 10 points.

"Brittney keeps getting stronger every game," beamed Dickson. "Jennifer Hanahan was equally impressive on defense. That was her best game of the season."

The Spartans improved their record to 10-4 overall with the win. Next up, Eaton, January 21, with a rare Friday night home appearance by the Spartan squad.
