The Spartan Football team, cheerleaders, and trainings met Sunday in their final hurrah to the 2008 season and present awards and letters to the participants.
Head football coach, Jay Niswonger, reflected about the Spartans 7-4 season and Valley View’s 15th playoff appearance over the course of his 25-year tenure as coach.
Addressing the team, Niswonger noted, “While the outcome wasn’t what many of you were hoping for, as a team, you continued a tradition that began before many of you were even born. Making the playoffs just doesn’t happen. It happens because you worked to make it happen.”
Valley View has only missed the playoffs once since their first appearance in 1992.
Among the SWBL and District honors, player awards, which are voted on by their peers, were distributed to individual players.

Our first Photo Challenge! And our first subject matter, SHOES! Or feet. Or something out of the ordinary in this area. Our first post isn’t nearly as interesting as Red Shoes by UltraViolett Wallpaper, or Bar Gal’s Incredible Floating Shoes.
We want to see your best shot of glorious, beautiful shoes, feet in shoes, flip flops, stuck in the sand, and all that other good stuff.
So get creative. Share a photo with us. Each week we ask Valley View Online Readers to post a picture based on ….something. Fall, buildings, children, pets, Sunsets. Just about any topic.
There are no rules for your photo. Keep in mind: This group is safe for everyone. Please, no offensive content and be sure your photo is ok for a global, public audience.
Upload your entry to our Flickr Photo Group. Use “Valley View Online” as one of your tags when you upload your photo.
Got an idea for a weekly topic? Send us an email and put ‘Photo Challenge” in the subject line. Or we can just do that for you

Awards for Fall Sports (except football) were presented this past Monday, Nov 3 in Boys and Girls soccer, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Golf, and Tennis.
The Spartans had several standouts through out the league in both volleyball and golf.
Ricky Denny (jr) walked away first team in the SWBL Southwestern Division. Denny averaged 0 strokes above par, finished 2nd in the League by one stroke, and missed the cut to the District tournament by one stroke.
“He has been pretty strong, even coming in as a freshman,” said boys coach, Russ Wallace.
“He wasn’t real pleased with his performance as a last year, but this year he just excelled. Our entire team will be even more competitive next year,” noted Wallace.
The Valley View girls volleyball team ended their season, third in the SWBL Southwestern Division with an 8-4 record, and 15-8 overall.
In addition to one of the best seasons the team has had historically, several members were recognized for All League Honors.
First Team: Sarah Botts (so) and Libby Lakes (sr)
Second Team: Allison Mireles (jr)
Honorable Mention: Amanda Harting (sr) and Tristin Spurlock (jr)
In addition, Botts garnered 2nd team District honors, with Mireles and Lakes receiving Honarable Mentions.
In Cross Country, Jake Kasperski was a state qualifier, finishing 28th out of a field of 143 runners, becoming the first Spartan runner to advance to that level since 1976. In that year the event weighed in at 2 miles. It became a 5K (3.1 miles) race in 1982.
The Football Awards presentations will take place Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1:30 pm in the high school gymnasium.
