Pony-size pig holds woman captive, sent to stud

Posted by Mike Dowden On September - 27 - 2008     ADD COMMENTS

We meant to comment on this story when it came out Wednesday but we just couldn’t get around to it. Not that we have any more time now, but it just seemed like ideal since we were thinking about bacon. Bacon, after all, makes up the best part of a breakfast. Unless your having Eggs Benedict and then it’s the Canadian Bacon underneath that rich creaminess of hollandaise sauce.

Canadian bacon, unlike our heart healthy version here in the US, is really just ham. Apparently no one has told the Candadians that yet. Breaking news.

Back to the pig. This pig was saved by a vegetarian, so it’s almost predictable that it’s been sent to a local piggery to do some stud work. This hog sealed its fate when it made ‘aggressive demands’ to be fed and then headbutted the woman’s door. Dumb pig. When you’re the size of a Shetland pony you need to be a little more discreet.

Don’t take our word for it. Go to MSNBC and read all about this travesty for yourself. We’re going to have some bacon.

Spartan Homecoming A Crowning Success

2008 Valley View Homecoming

2008 Valley View Homecoming

The Valley View crowd had more to cheer about than homecoming, as the they watch the men in blue dominate the Bellbrook Golden Eagles 35-6 Friday night.

The stingy Spartan defense held the Golden Eagles to 144 yards in total offense, holding Bellbrook scoreless until early in the fourth quarter.

Chewing up most of the clock in the first quarter, the Spartans took the opening kickoff and drove the length of the field before turning the ball over on downs at the Golden Eagle 20 yard line with 4:21 remaining in the quarter.

Three plays later the defense forced Bellbrook to punt out of a fourth and 20 situation, returning the ball to the Spartans who punched it in 3 plays later with a 15 yard toss from John Day to Travis Dalton at the 1:56 mark.  Day was 18 of 29 passing for 298 yards and 4 TDs for the night.

It appeared the offense might stumble when the Spartans intercepted a pass and then were forced to punt the ball away. The defense again handed them the ball on a fumble recovery by Matt Tegtmeyer but the Spartans had to opt for a 45 yd field goal that was just outside of Michael Boyd’s range by 2 yards.

Instead of crumbling, the Spartan offense came roaring back on their next two possessions, using only two plays for 108 yards that netted a 58 yard TD pass to Kyle Pohl, followed with a 50 yard TD pass to Andy Gensligner, giving Valley View a 21-0 half time lead.

The offense still continues to struggle with scoring in the second half. Other than Indian Hill, where they scored 28 second half points, they haven’t been able to put together a complete game that showed any consistancy. However, against Bellbrook, they seemed to be getting better.

Defensively, the Spartans are still dominating their opponents, only allowing 13.5 points a game, and creating opportunities for the offense. In four games this season they’ve had two shutouts and given up  a score in two games in the fourth quarter that had the potential to end as shutouts.

The Spartans (5-1, 2-1) take on the Franklin Wildcats next week in a game that might end up deciding the SWBL Southwestern division race. Franklin, (4-2, 2-0) has wins against North College Hill (4-2) 24-0, Milton Union (2-4) 24-14, Bellbrook (4-2) 27-8, and Middletown Madison (3-3) 38-14.

Bulldogs Can’t Stop Spartan Offensive Machine

Posted by Mike Dowden On September - 20 - 2008     1 COMMENT

Spartan quarterback John Day threw for three touchdowns as the Valley View Spartans rack up 510 yards in total offense  pounding the Milton Union Bulldogs 44-0 Friday night at Barker Field. Day was 12-of-17 passing for 235 yards.

Lucas Donson, sidelined with an injury sustained in week 2 against Indian Hill, made his return to active duty catching two of Day’s three TDs. Donson caught five passes for 109 yards.

It didn’t start out looking all rosy for the men in blue. Milton Union returned the opening kickoff 45 yards and two plays later the Bulldogs were looking at the end zone from the Spartan 12 yard line.

On the next play senior defensive back, Sean Figley, ended any hopes the Bulldogs had of scoring, intercepting MU quarterback Jon Mason in the end zone and setting the Spartan offensive machine in motion at the Bulldog 20 yard line.

Then, on the first play from scrimmage, senior running back Travis Dalton, took the ball around the end and with one blocker and plenty of daylight, scampered 80 yards for the touchdown with 8:52 remaining in the first quarter. Dalton carried the ball eight times for 153 yards, including a 26 yard run.
